Tilbage i slut 50'erne begyndte Maserati for alvor at koncentrere deres produktion af biler til det private luksus markedede istedet for racerbiler, første model var denne 3500 GT som både fandtes som en åben Spyder og denne 2+2 Coupe der blev bygget af Carrozzeria Touring fra 1961 - 1964 som blev bygget i Superleggera Aluminium. Bemærk størstedelen af bilerne var udstyret med en 6-cylindret række motor på 3.5 l og 3 Weber karburatorer som ydede 220 HK, men de sidste fik istedet direkte indsprøjtning hvilket øgede effekten til 235 HK - MANGE af motorerne er efterfølgende bygget om til karburatorer da indsprøjtningssystem gav nogle udfordringer og derved er der ikke mange originale med indsprøjtning tilbage - MEN der er lavet og virker på denne bil! Selv om Maserati betegner denne 3500-model som deres første model,der er produceret i større antal, så er det trods alt en sjælden bil, vi her har med at gøre, da modellen med direkte indsprøjtning som på denne kun er produceret i 441 eksemplarer ud af en samlet produktion på 2.223 biler. Bilen her er oprindelig leveret til en kunde fra Milano fra ny, derefter vides ikke så meget om bilen indtil den har indgået i den store Petitjean Collection i Frankrig, hvor den har stået fra 1996-2020. - hvorefter den har været i privat eje indtil nu.
